This study aims to consolidate the application needs and the observation requirements for future operational L-band SAR missions, as well as to define the corresponding preliminary mission and technical requirements. The study encompassses the whole chain from the definition of a mission goal to the final plannning of a mission with the spacecraft. As the study is launched for 15 months the analysis can be done only on a basis of a first order assessment of the complete chain.

The overall goal of the High Resolution SAR Algorithms for Mass Balance and Dynamics of Calving Glaciers (SAMBA) project is to advance the utilization of high resolution SAR sensors for better understanding of flow dynamics and processes of ice/climate interactions of calving glaciers and for reducing the uncertainties in mass balance of calving glaciers and on their current sea level contributions in regions of high climate sensitivity. This work is based on data of the TanDEM-X and TerraSAR-X missions.

ENVEO is partner in the Ice Sheets CCI Project, which is part of the Climate Change Initiative of ESA. ENVEO is leading the ice velocity product (ice sheet wide and time series for major ice streams) and is contributing to the grounding line production from SAR data.
Data sets are made available through ENVEO's CryoPortal (http://cryoportal.enveo.at)
ENVEO is partner in the Ice Sheets CCI Project, which is part of the Climate Change Initiative of ESA. ENVEO is leading the time series of calving fronts and grounding lines of major outlet glaciers of Greenland. ENVEO is further leading the production of ice sheet wide ice velocity maps from Sentinel-1 data, as well as high-resolution time series of ice velocity for the margins of the Greenland ice sheets.
Products are provided through the ENVEO CryoPortal (http://cryoportal.enveo.at).
