Icelandic Research Fund 2020 - CISIM - Comprehensive monitoring of Icelandic glaciers using Sentinel data, in-situ observations and modelling for understanding short term variations of ice flow, glacier surges and jökulhlaups  (2020 - 2023)

ENVEO is partner in the CISIM project, aiming on advancing the understanding of glacier dynamics to improve models used for projections of glacier changes due to climate change. The dynamic processes include channelled ice flow, glacier surges and jökulhlaups. Processing methods for up-to-date ice-velocity measurements from Sentinel-1 SAR data are impoved and adapted to Icelandic conditions. Results are combined with advanced glaciological models to study glaciological processes and to improve the understanding of the glaciers' response to climate changes and to sudden changes in water input to the base of the glaciers due to surface melting and rain, and during jökulhlaups and surges.

Financed by the Icelandic Research Fund 2020.

Project Team: Icelandic Met Office (IMO) (PI), Science Insitute - University of Iceland (SI-UI), ENVEO Environmental Earth Observation IT GmbH, Institut des Géosciences de l'Environnement Grenoble (IGE), Vatnajökull National Park, CSC-IT Center for Science Ltd.
